Frequently Asked Questions

Gunite vs. Other Pools - What's the Difference?

MEMPHIS POOL builds only gunite pools. Gunite is a seamless, superior strength concrete construction applied under high pressure from a special machine ... then finished with the interior surface of your choice. We use our dry mix gunite gun for maximum strength and longevity. The cost to purchase this machine was 20 times higher than the wet gunite machine. We invested in it because it is far superior, and we are the only pool builder in the Mid-South that has it. That is why we can confidently provide a lifetime warranty on the shell, and we'll be here, as we have been for over 55 years, to back it up.

No other pool can match the long term durability and creative designs and beauty of a gunite pool. Gunite will cost $5000 or more than vinyl lined or fiberglass pools, but the added value of gunite is something most homeowners can easily see and appreciate. If a gunite pool does not fit in your budget, allow us to suggest a quality oriented vinyl liner pool firm, such as Aloha.

How Long Does it Take to Build a Pool?

Most of our pools take 30-60 days to complete from the day we first excavate. Of course, excessive rain can cause additional delays. Our gunite pools are custom handcrafted on-site; thus, they are very labor and material intensive, involving many different steps and specialists to work on the project.

When Can You Start?

As you might expect from ANY quality pool firm, there are generally other pools already on our schedule. We understand your excitement and desire to go swimming now; however, we want you to be sure your pool meets your long-term dreams. Our design/sales representative can give you an idea of how many dry working days our crews currently have scheduled. Be assured, a pool from MEMPHIS POOL is worth the wait.

How do we pay for the pool?

Most homeowners find a significant tax advantage and interest advantage by optaining a home equity loan through their bank. MEMPHIS POOL can recommend an institution if you don't have one

You will pay a 30% deposit when your contract agreement is finialized. Then, you'll make progress payments as the pool is built. 50% when the gunite work is done, 15% when the decking is complete, and the final 5% when all work has been completed as per the agreement and to your satisfaction.
